It’s always fun working with a bride and groom who plan to fill their day with special surprises and Caryn and Francis delivered!

Caryn and Francis’s wedding took place on a beautiful spring day on Crooked Lake. Walking around the space, it was clear that every detail of their wedding was elegantly planned. The bride’s favorite flowers, daffodils, were placed throughout the venue, incorporated along the aisles of the outdoor ceremony and inside the reception hall. The color yellow permeated the space and it quickly became a visual motif, its presence felt more and more as day turned to night.

Music has been a vital part of the couple’s life together. Caryn, whose family is comprised of a long line of musicians, is a flutist for a woodwind quintet and Francis, a longtime trombone player. From the ticking of the soundtrack which resembles a metronome to images of rippling waves and a groomsman playing a piano during prep, all of these elements help to portray the music and art infused in Caryn and Francis's relationship.

These subtle references ultimately build toward Caryn and Francis’s surprise musical performance. The father of the bride, a talented drummer, surprised the crowd once again when he took to the stage to perform the couple’s final musical number. There was also room for more personal and quiet reveals, as Caryn recognized her own parents’ upcoming anniversary and invited them to take the dance floor in celebration.

Perhaps the most touching of surprises came during their ceremony when, previously unbeknownst to them, the bride and groom reference the same Filipino love song in their vows. At the end of the film, their vows are intercut and when Caryn tells Francis she loves him, she at once begins to laugh tearfully, overwhelmingly excited for what’s to come. Enjoy!
